Van Halen – David Lee Roth again?

Ok, what the crap is going on out there?!

First we find out that the Police are getting back together to kick off the Grammy’s (and now possibly a summer tour?), then Rage Against the Machine…NOW I read that Van Halen has just signed a deal with David Lee Roth today that states that they will launch out on a tour together this year (as well as perform at their induction to the Rock and Roll hall of fame – w/ Sammy Hagar and w/out Michael Anthony as Eddie’s son Wolfgang is now playing bass).

Something is in the Rock and Roll water or something. It keeps going, I mean look: Smashing Pumpkins are rehearsing, there’s a rumor that Led Zepplin are preparing to reuinte with John Paul Jones, Genesis is reuniting, and even the Happy Mondays!

Seriously, what’s going on?! Are people just running out of pocket change and are desperate to line them back with some fresh cash or are they really trying to put their differences behind them and create good music again?

Now, I’ve been burned before by Van Halen, we all have. It seems like any time Eddie’s mind changes someone leaves, gets canned and it all blows up. Anyone else remember that fateful night when David lee Roth walked out on stage with Van Halen shortly after Sammy left/got fired? He made one comment like “this is the first time that we’ve been on the same stage together in over 10years” and that was it. Out again!

Then in 2001, Roth said that he’d been out recording some new tracks with the band which never surfaced. (and no one likes to remember the whole Gary Charone year – and the “Van Halen 3″ album which isn’t even mentioned in their greatest hits liner notes)

So, we’ll see.

Now if we can just get Petra and Whiteheart back together….
